While evacuating wounded troops from Zapadnaya Litsa he was subjected to heavy bombing by 12 enemy aircraft. They dropped more than 50 bombs. Despite the lack of room for maneuvering, the ship was extricated from the difficult situation without suffering any damage or losses among the crew owing to the commander's skillful and fearless actions.

In August and September 1942 he escorted convoys of transport ships, both Soviet and Allied, from Kola Bay to Naryan-Mar and Novaya Zemlya. During the journey he fought off repeated attacks by enemy aircraft.

On October 11, 1942 he took part in securing the approach routes for the transports near Matochkin Shar. On October 11 the ship struck an acoustic enemy mine and sank within five minutes. The commander stayed at his post until the last moment, battling to keep his ship afloat and save his crew, showing steadfastness, bravery, and fearlessness in the process. After the ship had foundered he was picked up by a ship's boat.

Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:

During his service in the 1st Patrol Ship Division he showed himself a brave and steadfast officer who skillfully leads the unit he is in charge of. During the Patriotic War he has been taking part in many combat operations in the struggle with the German-fascist invaders, particularly as commander of patrol ship Uragan during the period in which the Pechenga region was cleared of enemy forces. On the night of October 13 to 14, 1944, when his ship was the first to sweep a route for other ships to pass through, he did not falter, in spite of drifting mines exploding, and boldly drove his ship forward, clearing the way for the other ships and delivering ammunition to the naval infantry units near Liinakhamari in a timely manner.

In January and February 1945 comrade Kozin, while in command of patrol ship Groza, escorted more than 60 Soviet and Allied transport ships in areas with heightened enemy submarine activity. Owing to the efficient way in which lookout duty and communications were organized and the ship's skillful maneuvering, he was able on several occasions to anticipate possible approaches by enemy submarines moving in to attack the escorted transports, which enabled the convoys to complete their journeys without losses. For instance, from January 24 to 26, 1945 three transports - the Vyatka, Onega, and Selenga - were led from Petsamo to Kola Bay. On February 2, 1945 the transport Kirov was escorted from Kola Bay to Petsamo. On February 7-8, 1945 seven Allied transports were joined up with and escorted from the White Sea to Kola Bay. On February 12-13, 1945 fifteen Allied transports were joined up with in the Barents Sea and escorted to the White Sea. On February 15-16, 1945 the transport Budyonny was escorted from Pokonga [?] to Kola Bay, et cetera. During the Patriotic War comrade Kozin, while in command of patrol ship Groza, traversed a distance of more than 14,000 miles without any accidents occurring.

For his skillful command of his ship during combat operations and the boldness and bravery he exhibited in the struggle with the German-fascist invaders, I nominate comrade G.Y. Kozin for the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class.
