He has been serving in Long-Range Aviation and the 18th Air Army from July 19, 1942 up to the present time. During this time Guards Major Romanov conducted 195 successful nighttime combat sorties in a B-25 aircraft and 6 daytime combat sorties in a B-25. He flies combat missions aimed at destroying enemy troops and materiel as part of the following crew: pilot Guards Lieutenant Arkhipov, squadron navigator Hero of the Soviet Union Guards Major Tyurin, squadron chief of signals Guards Junior Lieutenant Kuperin, and aerial gunner Guards Sergeant Muravyov.

Guards Major Romanov possesses fine organizational skills and, as a squadron commander, he skillfully motivates his men to carry out their assigned combat missions in an excellent manner.

On April 28, 1944 he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner. After being nominated for and receiving this award comrade Romanov flew 32 successful nighttime combat sorties and 6 daytime combat sorties in a B-25 aircraft, destroying railroad junctions, supply lines, and encircled enemy forces, for instance at Danzig, Königsberg, Breslau, and elsewhere.

On October 31, 1944 Guards Major Romanov was given command of a squadron. Since that time the squadron's aircrews have flown 180 successfully executed combat sorties under his leadership, without any serious in-flight incidents occurring. All important assignments carried out by the regiment are entrusted to comrade Romanov's squadron and he handles them with distinction.

Guards Major Romanov devoted a great deal of attention to training the young aircrews that arrive at the unit as replacements, verifying their knowledge during combat missions.

During the time he has been in command of his squadron Guards Major Romanov trained and put into service 5 young pilots.

An excellent Pilot, comrade Romanov has been given important weather reconnaissance missions, repeatedly carrying out assignments in adverse weather conditions, always ensuring the main formation of the regiment or division could conduct its mission.

He is disciplined, demanding of himself and his subordinates, and his general political development is good. He enjoys professional authority among the men.

He is dedicated to the Party of Lenin and Stalin and the Socialist Motherland.

He flies the following aircraft: U-2, R-5, SB, UT-2, and B-25. He has accumulated an overall flight time of 1225 daytime hours and 760 nighttime hours, without any in-flight incidents occurring.
